Sports 4 Children Award 2021 Winner Alafia — Rugby pour el Paix

Applications for the first edition of the Sport 4 Children Award closed on the 22nd of October. We have been overwhelmed by the number of candidates who applied. A total of 82 applications coming from 14 different countries.

We are pleased to announce that the project “Alafia – Rugby pour la Paix” by the Association Terres en Mélées has been chosen as the winner of the 2021 Boustany Foundation Sport 4 Children Award.

The Alafia – Rugby pour la Paix project will be implemented in the African countries of Burkina Faso and Togo. The project will have as direct beneficiaries 1.500 boys and girls between 6 and 15 years old. In a region characterized by ethnic, religious, cultural and political diversity, Terres en Mélées aims to transmit to children through sport, a foundation of common values and to spread a culture of non-violence. This will ultimately contribute to enable children to live happy, healthy, productive, meaningful, and rewarding lives.

“The word ‘Alafia’ means peace, well-being and health. Our ambition is to make this project a trailblazer for education through sport in West Africa. We create educational content on themes related to peace, such as living together, cohesion, inclusion, respect and tolerance.”

Mahawiya Ouro-Koumoni, Coordinator Terres en Mêlées

“Throughout the program, we cry to reach out to the youngest children and educate them through sports. We aim to tell the girls, as well as the boys, that there are no limits. Everyone can do the same thing”.
